Mt Alexander Knitting Nannas
We sit, knit, plot, have a yarn and a cuppa, and bear witness to the war against greedy, short-sighted corporations.

Who we are and what we do
We are a group of older women, living in Castlemaine, Victoria and in surrounding towns, who care about the environment. We feel that the people in powerful positions are not looking after our land, sea and air. We are not affiliated with any particular party; we annoy all politicians equally and we remind them often about what they should be doing. We bring attention to these issues by peacefully protesting in public places (often in an entertaining way!), writing letters and petitions, supporting other groups and having conversations.
We would like our children, our grandchildren and future generations to inherit a clean, healthy environment, to be able to enjoy the natural beauty and diversity of our land.
It is often the case that older women are not seen. Our group gives us a voice and an opportunity to get together with like-minded people. Often we feel a sense of despair with the state of the world but when we get together, we feel that we are a part of something bigger. This encourages us to feel hopeful.
We sit, knit and plot!
You don't have to be a Nanna and you don't have to knit!
Come and join us!

Where to find us
We meet every 3rd Wednesday night of the month at Castlemaine Community House, 30 Templeton Street, Castlemaine, 7.00pm - 8.30pm. We have a presentation and then there is time for a chat and a cuppa! Everyone is welcome.
We also occasionally meet for a more social time - knitting (or doing other craft), singing and playing music. If you are interested, we are happy to teach you how to knit or crochet. Please join us!
